Rama Raksha

रामरक्षास्तोत्रम्

The sacred armour of Lord Rama — a powerful protective ritual combining the Rama Raksha Stotra, Rama Nama Japa, and Havana to create an impenetrable shield of divine grace.

What is Rama Raksha?

Rama Raksha is a powerful protective ritual centered around the Rama Raksha Stotra — the sacred armour of Lord Rama. Composed by the sage Budha Kaushika, this stotra was revealed to him in a divine dream and is considered one of the most potent protective hymns in the Hindu tradition. The ritual combines the protective power of the stotra with Rama Nama Japa and Havana to create an impenetrable shield of divine grace.

The Rama Raksha Stotra systematically invokes Lord Rama's protection over every part of the devotee's body and every aspect of their life. When performed as a complete ritual with Havana, its protective power is amplified manifold, creating a sacred atmosphere that repels all negativity and surrounds the devotee and their family with the divine armour of Shri Rama.

Sacred Verses

रामो राजमणिः सदा विजयते रामं रमेशं भजे ।

"Rama, the jewel among kings, is ever victorious — I worship Rama, the Lord of Rama (Lakshmi), the supreme sovereign of all."

आपदामपहर्तारं दातारं सर्वसम्पदाम् ।
लोकाभिरामं श्रीरामं भूयो भूयो नमाम्यहम् ॥

"I bow again and again to Shri Rama — the remover of all calamities, the bestower of all prosperity, the one who delights the entire world."

Spiritual Significance

The Rama Raksha Stotra holds a unique place among protective hymns because of its divine origin — it was not composed through intellectual effort but was directly revealed to sage Budha Kaushika in a dream by the grace of Lord Shiva. This divine provenance imbues every verse with extraordinary spiritual potency.

Lord Rama represents the ideal of Maryada Purushottam — the supreme person who embodies perfect adherence to dharma. His name itself is considered a Taraka Mantra — a mantra that liberates the soul. The tradition holds that Lord Shiva Himself constantly chants "Rama, Rama" and revealed the Rama Raksha to protect devotees in the age of Kali.

The ritual is further empowered by the inclusion of Hanuman Chalisa — the forty verses in praise of Lord Hanuman, who is Rama's greatest devotee and the very embodiment of protective strength. Together, the stotra, japa, and Hanuman Chalisa create a comprehensive spiritual shield that guards the devotee on every plane of existence.
